In a recent study for the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building), UK NARIC benchmarked the Fellowship (FCIOB) designation against UK national qualification standards. The work confirmed that the FCIOB is comparable to RQF Level 7.

The study aimed to determine the overall comparability of the FCIOB against the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to facilitate greater understanding and recognition of the designation nationally and internationally.

With more than 42,000 members from a wide range of professional disciplines within the construction industry worldwide, the Chartered Institute of Building is considered to be the international voice of the building professional, and delivers relevant qualifications and certifications.

The development of the FCIOB assessment process has been ongoing since 2013, when UK NARIC benchmarked the Chartered Institute of Building’s Chartered Membership (MCIOB). More recently, the assessment process, designed in early 2017, enabled existing Members of the CIOB and current non-Members to be assessed.

In the context of the UK education system, the independent review of the FCIOB was based on UK NARIC’s well-established methodology for credential evaluation. The FCIOB was assessed in terms of entry requirements and duration, structure and content, learning outcomes, mode of learning and assessment, associated outcomes, and a thorough review of the CIOB’s quality assurance and control mechanisms for assessing and awarding the FCIOB designation.
