Education in English Speaking Africa

This course covers education in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda.


Overview

The session aims to provide an overview to education in a number of English speaking African countries. For each country, it focuses on secondary education, university entrance criteria and higher education, using examples of educational documents to illustrate features of the education system and allow for discussion of any issues which may arise when evaluating qualifications from this region.


Target Audience

This course is recommended for university and college staff involved with entry to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The course will also be useful to people from professional bodies, nationality & immigration solicitors, recruiters, work permit and visa agencies, careers / guidance / refugee and asylum seekers advisers as well.



Objectives

The key objectives of the training are to:

  • Achieve an understanding of the variety of awards and educational structures in English speaking Africa
  • Gain an insight into recent developments in the different education systems of the region
  • Learn about higher education qualifications, institutions and accreditation in English speaking Africa
