European Professional Card operation reviewed at Single Market Forum

Zara Green of UK NARIC’s Centre for Professional Qualifications took part in the European Commission Single Market Forum in Brussels on 16 May.

The forum reviewed the first year of operation of the ‘European Professional Card’ (EPC) and the ‘alert mechanism’.

The discussion was wide in scope and included contributions from a range of government authorities and professional bodies.

Issues were raised concerning the ‘uneven’ nature of implementation of these recognition schemes across the different countries.

The UK is particularly active in upholding recognition rights and raises more alerts at European level than any other Member State.

The Centre for Professional Qualifications can advise on all aspects of professional qualifications in an international context.

The CPQ is the designated UK Assistance Centre to provide advice and guidance on the recognition of professional qualifications in line with Directive 2005/36/EC modified by Directive 2013/55/EU.

The CPQ is part of a wider network of Assistance Centres in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. The Assistance Centre replaces the UK National Contact Point for Professional Qualifications (UK NCP).
